Import formats
Bring your existing charts in three ways: a whole folder at once, a single file, or a paste. All three run the same format detection, so the result is identical.
File import
On the New Song screen, pick a chart file (the file icon, or Ctrl+I). BandBinder recognizes:
- ChordPro -
.cho,.chopro,.chordpro,.crd,.pro - OnSong -
.onsong - Plain text -
.txt - PDF -
.pdf; a text-layer PDF converts into an editable chart for review, or keep any PDF as-is and perform straight from it - scanned or photographed pages included
A chart file exported from BandBinder carries the song's Spotify, YouTube, and audio
reference links, and re-importing it restores them. A song kept as a PDF exports as a
bare .pdf and comes back with title and artist only.
Detection reads the contents, not the extension, so a .txt file holding an OnSong-
or Ultimate Guitar-style chart still converts correctly.
Batch import (a whole folder at once)
On the Songs list menu, choose Import folder of songs... and pick the folder. BandBinder scans its top level only (no subfolders) for the file types above, then shows a review list before importing anything:
- New songs are checked by default and will be added.
- Duplicates - a case-insensitive, trimmed title match against the band's active songs, plus repeats within the folder itself - are unchecked, so re-running an import only picks up what's still missing. Check a duplicate row to import it anyway; it's added alongside the existing song, never merged into or overwriting it.
- Unreadable files (empty, corrupt, or an unrecognized format) are shown disabled with a reason, and skipped.
Uncheck anything you don't want, then commit. A single failed file doesn't roll back the batch; the import continues and reports what landed and what didn't. Being a write action, it's hidden from read-only band members.
Batch import brings in the chart itself - lyrics, chords, key, tempo. Spotify and YouTube links and album art aren't part of the exported files, so add those by hand afterwards.
Paste detection
BandBinder never fetches or scrapes lyrics or chords from any website - it only cleans up text you've already copied yourself. Copy a chart elsewhere, then open a new, empty song here: BandBinder checks the clipboard and fills the empty chart body.
- Ultimate Guitar - chords-over-lyrics text copied from a tab/chords page
- Genius - lyrics with section tags (
[Verse],[Chorus]) copied from a lyrics page - OnSong - header/chord text copied from another OnSong chart
- ChordPro - text that already contains ChordPro directives
Every fill is reported in a status line with an Undo and a format override. Detection only fills an empty chart body on a new song - it never rewrites an existing chart.
